Consulate General of India, Johannesburg organised an India-Africa Fashion Show on 14 March from 6 – 9 at Houghton Golf Club, Osborn Road, Johannesburg. The objective of the Fashion Show was to promote and generate awareness
about Indian textiles in South Africa. India is the largest producer of cotton & jute in the world; second largest producer of polyester, silk and fibre and textile sector is the second largest employment provider in India after agriculture.
A Khadi exhibition was put up which was inaugurated by Consul General Mrs.Anju Ranjan. As Government of India is celebrating 150h birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Khadi Exhibition on the sideline of the Fashion Show in the same venue was a befitting tribute to Mahatma and Swadeshi. A total of 9 designers showcased 90 designs. More than 40 models walked the ramp. The best three designers were recognised by the Consul General. The finale attraction of the event was a bridal show representing 8 States of India, viz, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
